VC10 G-ARTA had a heavy landing at Gatwick early in the morning of 28th Jan 1972

Was anybody on duty that day or maybe attended the incident or were involved with the following inquiry ?

many thanks, Dave T

I remember my father telling me about it, a good while back now.

Though I found some info on it not so long back, then one of the silhouettes turned up recently too, and it got me thinking about those that were there.

It was empty on a positioning flight, I wonder if any of the flight crew are around ?

empty from LHR only. Passengers disembarked there. I believe the loadsheet was not correct and no ballast on board, very little fuel as only from LHR

I remember seeing the sad sight of damaged G-ARTA the day it happened.

I have what I believe to be the flight deck door handle from G-ARTA.

My friend Jon has a largish section of the fuselage skin (12 x 12 inches).

I have one of the silhouettes, with your door handle too,

I wonder how many other bits of ARTA are out there ?

The official report indicated that the F/O mis-heard the Captain, and pulled the speed brake handle right back when the aircraft was still someway off the runway, causing it to sink at a vey high rate.

The Captain allegedly was Dave 'Dinger' Bell, no idea who the F/O was, but I bet he was popular with Dave later.
